TT glory for Daytona 675R
Gary Johnson and the Smiths Triumph Daytona 675R took a thrilling victory in this years Isle of Man Supersport TT race. Held over 4 laps of the 37.7 mile course, Johnson snatched victory by just 1.5 seconds, being only a tenth of a second ahead at the Cronk-ny-Mona on the last lap.
Riding a Smiths Triumph prepared Daytona 675R, usually campaigned by Billy McConnell in the British Supersport Championship, Johnson was able to maximise the drive and agility of his machine to pull away from second placed Bruce Anstey on the final lap.
“..the whole Smiths Triumph team have worked so hard. With the Metzeler tyres as well, we had a race-winning combination and having been strong in practice, we were able to do the same in the race and convert it all into the race win. It was tricky over the Mountain with the wet roads and I didn't gel with the conditions up there but I went hard on the lower part of the course and we got the job done. Full credit to the team, the bike never missed a beat so I'm delighted.”
The win marks Triumph’s first official return to the island after taking victory with Bruce Anstey on the Valmoto Triumph Daytona 600 in 2003 and follows Danny Eslick’s Daytona 200 victory a few weeks earlier.
