Manuel Gonzalez secured a fine fifth win of the 2026 Moto2™ World Championship today, dominating to victory at San Marino’s Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. The Spaniard beat Collin Veijer and Barry Baltus who rounded off the Triumph-powered podium.

The iconic Misano circuit hosted Round 14 of the Moto2 World Championship as the series arrived for the first of two back-to-back races before heading overseas for the flyaway rounds. After a sensational battle in the blistering heat of Aragon, it was a damp start to the weekend for the Moto2 riders, who navigated their way through Friday’s practice sessions.

Saturday’s Qualifying session brought the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP team a reason to smile as Australia’s Senna Agius stormed to a sensational pole position, utilising the 765-triple engine, as seen in the Triumph Street Triple 765 RS, with a 1:33.718, placing ahead of Dani Holgado and Angel Piqueras.

The 4.2km circuit basked in glorious sunshine on the Adriatic Coast as the 22-lap Moto2 Grand Prix got underway, and it didn’t take long to deliver drama. A strong start from the front row saw them enter the opening corner locked together, but contact between Piqueras and Holgado resulted in the pair crashing out, taking an unfortunate Agius with them.

As the riders emerged from the opening corners, it was Collin Veijer who led the field with title-favourite Gonzalez behind. Biding his time, the Spaniard dived to the inside on the fifth tour, passing his rival at Quercia corner before edging away from the Dutchman.

Meanwhile, the third place battle, that was headed by two-time victor Ivan Ortola, began to heat up. A pass from Baltus at turn four promoted the Belgian to third and began to set his sights on the duo ahead.

As the laps ticked by, Izan Guevara, who started 14th due to a penalty had worked his way up to sixth and then moved ahead of Aragon-victor Alonso Lopez, who lost the rear on the exit of Tramonto. Guevara soon had a podium in sight as Baltus was awarded a Long Lap Penalty for exceeding Track Limits.

Taking to the Long Lap Penalty loop, the number seven machine emerged just ahead of the chasing pack but held on to third-place and once again set about chasing the leading riders.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez, who too had a Track Limits warning to contend with, had opened his lead to over a second and managed the gap to the end, harnessing the power of his Triumph-triple to secure victory by 2.451 seconds over Veijer.

But the battle for third was well and truly on. A late-charging Tony Arbolino launched an attack on Guevara and then looked to get ahead of Ortola for fourth, who in turn was looking for a way onto the podium, but neither could negotiate a route through.

Baltus took the checkered flag in third, holding on ahead of Ortola and Arbolino, who secured fifth and his best result of the season, with Guevara completing the top six. Home-hero Celestino Vietti put his Speed RS machine in seventh with Lopez, David Alonso and Alex Escrig completing the top ten.

Gonzalez’ victory sees him extend his series lead to 47.5 points over Guevara, with Ortola now up to third.

The Moto2 World Championship heads to the Styrian hills next as the series prepares for its final European tour before heading to Asia. The Austrian Grand Prix is set to take place from 18-20 September.

3. Barry Baltus - Pushed through to third. Negotiated a Long Lap penalty and withstood late pressure to secure a podium position.
